Interstate 15 - Exit 198 - No Moat - California

I guess as cars evolved from needing to stop every 100 - 150 miles or so for gas, to driving upwards of 400 miles now on a single tank, the need for so many places to stop along the way to the destination for a fill-up slowly disappeared. And as the need went away, so did many of the once thriving businesses that once dotted the landscape. The exits along I-15 from Barstow to Las Vegas have many such examples. And Exit 198 is a prime one.

The Mineola Travel Store (pictured above) looks to be a perfect example. I couldn’t find any information about the place, but I’ll wager that it was once a fun place to stop and pick up some roadtrip supplies. Perhaps it was also a restaurant at some time.

Seems like a nifty place, looks like there was a lake out in front at one time.

As it appeared in a Google Earth image from back in 2008. Doesn’t really appear to have been open at the time of this picture.

It appears to be now used as storage. Maybe someday it will reopen. 🤞

Close by is all that remains of an old Service Station from the days gone by.

And another view from the way back machine, from 2008 when the building portion still stood.

And some variations of the sign for the restaurant right by the freeway that now operates as Mis Pinches Tacos. Just Eat Baby!

I’m not sure what it is that draws me to abandoned and forgotten places such as these. Think of all the stories they were part of. If you have any stories from any of these spots, please share them in the comments section below.
